Fairly generic action movie. The Rock plays The Rock again, but he is damn good at it, so that's OK. Big guns, explosions and lasers. Wierd industrial tunnels and labs. All adds to the atmosphere. However, actors who don't know what fire discipline is, or proper movement, detract a fair amount. What sort of Special Ops team splits into pairs to get killed once they realise that there are monsters kicking around?

Doom is fairly good actually, considering that it ia a videogame movie, I mean look at Mortal Kombat, Street Fighter, Super Mario Bros *shudder*. Doom turned out pretty well I thought. Don't get put off by the first-person footage in the trailer, there is only about 10 minutes of it, and it fits really well (I was worried it was a gimmick, and, well... ok, it is. But it fits). Not many twists and surprises, but there are a couple of good ones.

Nice to see the honey not being merely a love interest as well.

Fans of the game will get to see many game mechanics - coloured passkeys, all the weapons, the zombie security guards, but no cyber-demon, and no rocket launchers. The chainsaw's in there though, even if briefly.

All in all, a reasonable action movie. Not stunning, but no turkey.
